Distributor Sales Reps are the key that unlock the sale for food manufacturers. Getting their attention and building their knowledge of the client’s product puts the brand front and center in a sales call. The Virtual Reality training got their attention. It is something no competitor has even considered and has created a huge buzz in the industry.
The Point
Sales Training 2.0
McCain challenged The Alchemedia Project to build a new type of training program for internal sales reps and DSRs.
The Plan
How do you gamify training?
Create a unique training program for McCain’s Distributor customers that creates better engagement and retention of the material.
The Idea
Reinventing sales training using Virtual Reality (VR)
From theory to vision to production to implementation, this virtual training was a first for distributors, changing learning from a task to a game. Utilizing Virtual Reality training to transport distributor sales reps into a realistic foodservice environment where they can talk with a restaurant operator, practice consultative selling, learn how to handle objections and gain situational knowledge.
The team developed a narrative that created a responsive 2-way dialogue between a salesperson and a restaurant operator. Using VR, the trainee is placed inside the kitchen interacting with the staff in a real selling example.
The complex challenge of shooting a 360 video with client on set, live talent, spanned 2 full nights on location.
Once the footage was collected, the video was edited into multiple video segments in which the viewer makes choices which lead to a custom training experience much like the experience of a virtual reality game.
The Payoff
“That was a career changer for me.”
…said our client. “…the VR Training video is a SMASH HIT!!! (Senior Management) is totally over the moon about it…(Everyone) was blown away by the end result!”
